MOGLabs and research commercialisation: an Australian academic perspective

Professor Robert Scholten, The University of Melbourne, MogLabs

Special time and venue: 42-115 at 3pm

Academic researchers are driven to innovate, driven by competition for limited funds, to have their work recognised by publication in selective journals, to achieve esteem for themselves and their students and their institutions.  Their innovations frequently lead to commercialisation – but in Australia?  Not so much: Australia ranks last in the OECD for collaboration between industry and academia. I will present a very limited perspective on translating lab research to the marketplace, reflecting on the trials and tribulations but also on the rewards, and on what might be done to foster more translation within the Australian context.
