The 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for ground breaking inventions in the field of laser physics. It was awarded to Arthur Ashkin, Gerard Mourou, and Donna Strickland, who is the first woman in 55 years to be a Nobel Physics Laureate. Halina Rubinsztein-Dunlop, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, Professor of Physics at the University of Queensland, and a colleague of Donna Strickland, will present a broadly accessible colloquium explaining the physics behind the prize.
