University of Queensland

OVERVIEW

The Third Australian Conference on Laser Diagnostics in Fluid Mechanics and Combustion followed on from previous conferences in Sydney (1996) and Melbourne (1999). Its aimed is to bring together Australian and international researchers in the area of laser diagnostics to discuss current research and state-of-the-art technology.

Flow areas of interest included (but were not restricted to)

  • Combustion
  • Fluid Mechanics
  • Flames
  • Turbulent flow
  • Hypersonics

Associated laser diagnostic techniques that are to be covered were

  • Particle Image Velocimetry
  • Laser Doppler Velocimetry
  • Laser Induced Fluorescence
  • Holography
  • Interferometry
  • Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy
  • Nonlinear Spectroscopy
  • Schlieren and Shadowgraph Imaging

The conference was held at the St Lucia campus of the University of Queensland in Brisbane. Situated on the Brisbane River, it is easily accessible by a short ferry ride from the central business district. The conference host, the Department of Physics, actively researches the area of Laser Diagnostics of Hypersonic Flows through its involvement in the Centre for Hypersonics and Centre for Biophotonics and Laser Science.

NEXT CONFERENCE

The fourth Australian Conference on Laser Diagnostics in Fluid Mechanics and Combustion will be held at the University of Adelaide in 2005. Contact Dr Zeyad Alwahabi (Tel: (08) 8303 3768, e-mail zalwahab@chemeng.adelaide.edu.au) for further details.

PAPERS

We had about 30 presentations at the 2002 conference. These consisted of invited talks, full papers, and work in progress abstracts.

INVITED SPEAKERS

The conference featured four invited speakers on varying topics in laser diagnostics. Speakers were
