Planned Error Bars
You'll find all the error bars currently planned for the year here.
Semester 1
Liquid Nitrogen Icecream
Start of Semester
Icecream comes from a long process of mixing and freezing at about -5 deg C (~268 K). What do you think would happen
if we decided to skip that tedious process and freeze cream at -200 deg C (~73K)? Come along and you'll be able to find out!
Pi Appreciation Day
13th March
Though the official day is the 14th March (3/14 US timekeeping), we couldn't let such a momentous day slip past, so on
Friday, 13th March, we'll be celebrating the wonders of this universal constant.
Pi-related topics and games,
such a few bits of history about it and a competition to see who can remember the most digits (the winner last
year reached 120) will be part of the evening. Instead of pizza afterwards, there'll instead be pi-type foods, such
as, well, pie, all available for a
$2 entry at the start of the evening.
If you want,
check out the photos from last year's celebration.
Student Talks: Electromagnetism
2nd last Week
If you ever wanted to know what work higher year physics students did, or you're just interesting in anything electromagnetic, you should come along this evening. A series of presentations by
Electromagnetism students on their projects for this semester, the evening might shed some light on questions you've had or never even considered.
Bad Movie Physics I
End Semester
So sci-fi has its moments. And then those moments are mocked a great deal, mainly because they're hilarious. So we'll be watching a movie which takes those moments and sticks them all together in one place. For a hint on what it is, look carefully at the icon.
Semester 2
Treasure Hunt
Sometime
If solving a chain of puzzles while wandering across the campus sounds like fun, then this is the night for you.
Honours Error Bar
Late Semester
A night for all those interested in learning about Physics Honours. You don't have to be doing physics to attend, it might
be interesting to find out what goes on behind all those closed doors.
Bad Movie Physics II
End Semester
You know all those decent movies out there with laughable physics? Ones where you cringe every time they say something 'scientific'? We take one of those and watch it, making fun of the physics along the way.
