Balances and Weighing

-a short history from the three knife, two pan balance to the modern electronic balance.
-modern weighing systems which will include the "Monobloc" weighing cell
- influences that affect weighing results.

‘I was educated at a Grammar School in UK but let the "system" down when I started my working career as a trainee Fitter and Turner. A short spell in the RAF had me trained as an Instrument Mechanic and this proved to be natural vocation. I migrated from UK with my young family, arriving in Australia in 1965. I have worked on optical-mechanical and electro-mechanical instruments ever since. My training on balances has been mainly with Mettler, now Mettler Toledo and I am at present a consultant to that company.’
