The first Tools of Science meeting for 2007 will be held at 6pm on Tuesday March 6 in Richards (5) LR207* The speaker will be Julian Holland and the topic Looking for Angelo Tornaghi Scientific instruments and clocks bearing Tornaghi's name are preserved in numerous public and private collections. Tornaghi died on 15 October 1906. This paper will explore the complexity of some of the primary sources available for writing Tornaghi's life. Julian Holland, has published extensively on the history of scientific instruments and other aspects of the history of science, particularly in an Australian context. He is Australian representative of the Scientific Instrument Society. This paper was prepared in 2006 as part of a research fellowship at the National Museum of Australia. Light refreshments will be served after the talk. *Note change from former venue. As a result of UQ room allocation policy, Tools of Science will no longer have a permanent home, so please note the different venue each time. |
