The lecture will cover general history and significance of the topic and some developments at the Department of Chemistry, the University of Queensland. The lecture will do with X-ray generation and the role of synchrotron radiation and the use of X-ray absorption in biology and security, and diffraction in structure determination. Colin was a member of the University from 1964-1999 and started a local crystallographic group concentrating on the structure of pesticides and herbicides and related compounds. In his retirement, he had been involved as an explainer at the Sciencentre and now at the Queensland Museum.
