About QiSci
WHAT IS THE QUANTUM INFORMATION SCIENCE INITIATIVE?
The Quantum Information Science Initiative (QiSci) is an umbrella for activities in theoretical quantum information science at the University of Queensland, involving faculty, students, postdocs and staff in the School of Physical Sciences and the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
WHAT IS QUANTUM INFORMATION SCIENCE?
Quantum information science investigates the use of quantum systems as carriers of information. Using such systems opens up new ways of doing information processing, such as quantum computation and quantum cryptography. This has the potential to both revolutionize information technology, and to lead to new fundamental insights into quantum mechanics and the laws of the Universe. For an accessible discussion of some of the broad motivations for studying quantum information, see this article.
