Quantum Optics Meeting - Satellite Meeting to IQEC '96 
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
8- 9 July 1996 
Novotel Palm Cove Resort, Cairns, North Queensland, Australia

This two-day meeting on Quantum Optics will be a satellite meeting to 
IQEC'96. It will take place at Novotel Palm Cove Resort, Cairns, North
Queensland on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 July, in the week before the IQEC 
Meeting in Sydney (14-19 July). The meeting will overlap with the 
three-day meeting on Atom Optics to be held at the same venue on Tuesday 9, 
Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 July.

3. ACADEMIC POSITIONS

A LECTURESHIP IN THEORETICAL QUANTUM OPTICS
Department of Physics, University of Auckland
(Vacancy UAC.679)

The University wishes to appoint a tenure track member to expand the 
teaching and research capabilities in Theoretical Physics.  The successful 
applicant will be expected to contribute to the general undergraduate 
teaching programme and to the graduate programme in the areas of quantum 
and statistical physics.  She or he will join the existing research group 
in theoretical quantum optics.

Applicants should have research experience in theoretical aspects of 
quantum optics, atom optics and quantum statistics of dilute systems (eg 
Bose-Einstein condensation in atoms), including applications to quantum 
measurement theory.  The Physics Department also has an experimental 
programme in laser cooling and trapping of atoms.

Commencing salary will be established within the range NZ$42,500 - 51,500 per
annum.
