Faculty & Postdoc
![]() Prof. Timothy Ralph |
Tim Ralph is an Australian Research Council Professorial Fellow and Node manager of the Queensland Node of the Centre for Quantum Computer Technology. He obtained his BSc with honours at Macquarie University, Sydney and his PhD at the Australian National University, Canberra. |
![]() Dr. Christian Weedbrook |
Christian graduated with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Maths and Physics from the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia in 2003. The following year he earned his honours degree in Physics from the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra, Australia. Christian finished his PhD in “Quantum Information and Quantum Computation using Continuous Variables” under the guidance of Tim Ralph (UQ) and Ping Koy Lam (ANU) in 2009. Phd Students
![]() Agata Branczyk |
Aggie likes painting, screenprinting, movie making, photography, rock climbing, and in her spare time a little quantum physics. Visit her blog here |
![]() Patrick Leung |
Patrick is doing research in optical quantum computing with supervisor Prof. Timothy Ralph, focusing on the usage of two-photon absorption non-linearity in quantum computing, e.g. the optical Zeno gate. His research interests also include, optical quantum memory and photon sources/detectors. |
![]() Tony Downes |
Tony is currently investigating the effects of space-time curvature on entangled quantum systems. In particular he is researching the effects of gravity on optical entanglement under the guise of its implications for long distance quantum communication. This research is being carried out in the semi-classical regime of quantum fields on a fixed space-time background. Tony is also interested in algebraic approaches to quantum field theory, semi-classical gravity and quantum gravity. |
Alexander Hayes |
![]() Jacques Pienaar |
Jacques is writing his PhD on Relativistic Quantum Information under the supervision of Tim Ralph, and is interested in how modern theories treat the concept of ‘time’. When not doing physics, Jacques is a horror film aficionado and an aspiring author. |
![]() Nathan Walk |
Nathan is undertaking a PhD in continuous variable quantum communication under the supervision of Tim Ralph and Christian Weedbrook. Specific focuses of the work so far are quantum key distribution and amplification in quantum communication protocols. He is also very interested in acoustics, friction and classical dynamics as realised by guitars, rock climbing and billiards respectively. |
Former Members
![]() Dr. Alexei Gilchrist |
Alexei is interested in optical quantum computation and in the characterisation of quantum states and processes. |
![]() Dr. Peter Rohde |
Peter is interested in practical issues surrounding the implementation of optical quantum computing, including photon engineering and detection, mode matching and other experimental effects. In his spare time Peter is a mountaineer, rock climber and runner. Peter runs a blog here. |
![]() Dr. Hyunseok Jeong |
Hyunseok (Jacob) Jeong joined the QOQI group in 2003 as a postdoctoral research fellow and is now working as a research fellow. He obtained his PhD degree at Queen’s University Belfast in 2003 and his PhD thesis was awarded the IoP PhD thesis prize (quantum electronics and photonics group). His research interests encompass quantum optics and quantum information theory. One of his current research topics concerns the generation of non-classical light for quantum information processing. |
