Astrophysics Conference in Microcosm!
This Quasar Club event explored the formation of solar systems, & also how scientists work: how do they collaborate & communicate their results to each other? Dr Michael Drinkwater led an afternoon of astronomical information-gathering & discussionQuasar Club members were given the following scenario:
This is a research conference and you are experts on star and planet formation, gathered together to work out how giant gas clouds turn into solar systems like our own. In groups, you are given information to make you world experts on one aspect of the problem. Just like in the real world, no single group knows enough to solve the problem, so you have to exchange information with others to win scientific glory.
