What is the Quasar Club?
The Quasar Club is intended for a talented, enthusiastic group of students, to actively encourage and support them to achieve their full potential in physics. The Quasar Club is hosted by the Department of Physics at The University of Queensland.

The concept is to provide an "intellectual home" for an elite of Grade 11 and 12 school students. Our aim is to nurture their talent and enable them to explore their interests. Club activities are an opportunity to meet with others interested in physics, and interact with professional physicists.

Students are invited to join after being nominated by their teachers. As well as being keenly motivated, they are expected to have a consistent record of high achievement in physical sciences and mathematics. It's hoped that such students will go on to higher studies in physics, and may be potential world leaders in the physical science professions.

Membership is drawn from about 10 schools in the Brisbane area. Student numbers are limited to 30 to ensure quality individual participation.

Within this small group format, the Quasar Club provides access to cutting-edge physics topics through discussions and hands-on experiences of physics. These introduce to students a variety of research programs in which the Physics Department is involved. Departmental members participating in Quasar Club activities range from postgraduate students to established academics.

Approximately 5 activities, each of about 2 hours duration, are conducted through the year (generally after school Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
