Theory of Vergences

Combinations - Complex Components

To illustrate the power of the vergence theory, a complex component is considered.

If a 1.5 cm high object is positioned 8 cm from a biconvex lens made of flint glass (ng= 1.61), with the radius of curvature of the front surface of the lens being 4 cm, and the radius of the back surface being 1.0 m. The maximum thickness of the lens is 0.8 cm and the back surface is silvered. What is the location, attitude and size of the image?

This problem can be solved by two methods - assuming the lens is thick or assuming it is thin. Attempt this yourself.
